What a shortlist is

Every article answers one question: if you need a tool in this category today, which ones are worth your time? Each shortlist explains how the picks were chosen, compares them side by side, and then walks through every entry — what it is best for, its key features, how it is priced and whether there is a free plan or trial — with a direct link to the maker’s own website.

How we work

Our editors research each category, check features and pricing on the vendors’ own sites, and keep only the products they would recommend. We write positively about the tools we include because they earned their place; a product that does not belong on the list simply is not on it.
